Joy Orbison Comes To Liverpool

Im going to be careful with this post, basically to save me typing up a huge load of information and opinion and from getting too excited and using too many superlatives to describe someone whom I have nothing but absolute love for. Im going to copy and paste Archives info they have put on boards and forums etc and save myself a lot of time.

Because if I start typing about Joy Orbison there is a good chance I wont stop. And I will most likely run out of words like unbelievable, immense, fantastic, incredible, beautiful, magnificent....see, I have started already. My opinion, in short....one of the most important producers in UK Dance Music today, at Archive at Leaf Cafe, Friday 19th March. In one word. Unmissable.

''Joy Orbison, aka Peter O’Grady, is 2010's hottest producer, nodding towards the deepness of Detroit in his take on dubstep, which owes as much to disco and deep house as beats and bass. Hyph Mngo was THE track of 2009, make no mistake.

2010 is set to be even bigger for this producer. Pioneered by the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs (Radio 1), The Guardian, BBC Online; Joy Orbison has appeared on a multitude of hot tips for 2010 lists and has enjoyed rave reviews for his gifted combination of grime, dance hall and drum and bass, which are amongst some of the genres he effortlessly produces tracks that rhythmically transcend the previously unchartered territory between Dubstep, Disco, Techno, Garage and House. Incorporating the sounds of acts like My Bloody Valentine, Josef K and The Beach Boys he creates emotional electro music for the dance floor.

Prepare yourself as this is one gig worth getting there early for to catch this rising star in an intimate and unique setting before the rest of the world jumps on the Joy Orbison band wagon!Joy Orbison will be supported as ever by the Archive residents, Andy Mac and Cosmic Boogie.''

If you dont know who Joy Orbison is and are getting confused with the Pretty Woman singer, check a few of his mixes floating around the interwebz starting with this incredible one from a few months back.

James Rand - Paris, 1998 Mix

Local Dj James Rand secured his first residency at EVOL in March 2007, awarded the opportunity to play in between bands such as Metronomy, Late Of The Pier and Mystery Jets, whilst also warming up for Vitallic, Duke Dumont and 2 Many DJs.

Over the course of the next year, James started up his own night entitled 'Bibliothèque', soundtracking the Saturday night of the most individual venue in Liverpool, Korova with a mixture of Italo Disco, Techno, Noisy Electro, Vintage Electroclash, Alternative 80s Pop and Tinted Acid House. This night consistently serves an alternative to the wave of no-brainer Indie nights with a more 'forward thinking' approach to music. "Basically we want people to go out and hear music that's exciting. A large proportion of the 'Indie crowd' will go out to hear music they already have on their shelf. Our aim is to bring some intelligence back to the indie disco."

This year James has gone from strength to strength, with a new residency at the ever brilliant Peacock Bar alongside his Dj partner Mr Paul, notching up a number of appearances at Chibuku all along with gigs across the country supporting Erol Alkan (Bugged Out!), Renaissance Man (Dubsided/Kitsune) and Ben Rymer (DFA), he recently mixed the 50th edition of the Broken Hooker DJ's very popular ArePeopleReal podcast (previous guests include Brodinski, Matt Walsh and Duke Dumont).

2010 will see him with his hand in organising regular parties in Manchester and London with 'Jupiter Rooms' and is further deepening his skills in production whilst he studies sound engineering at college. James recently posted a new mix which is an absolute belter and one I couldn't recommend more, be sure to check it!
